Baltimore Ravens move to keep Derrick Henry beyond the 2025 NFL season
Baltimore Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta signed free agent Derrick Henry to a two-year, $16 million contract last offseason even though the former Alabama All-American was 30 years old, the so-called expiration date for running backs.
Henry delivered 1,921 rushing yards – the 11th-highest total in one season in NFL history – and tied for the league lead with 16 rushing touchdowns in the 2024 campaign.
That prompted questions this offseason about the possibility of the Ravens extending Henry’s contract.
“Well, I see Michelle (Andres, senior vice president of Ravens media) over here,” DeCosta said when asked that question at the NFL Scouting Combine. “She helps decorate my office wall, and I think we have a picture of Derrick going up on my wall, so what does that tell you?”
On Wednesday, DeCosta’s hint became a reality, with NFL Network and ESPN reporting Baltimore and Henry had reached an agreement on a two-year, $30 million contract extension that features $25 million in guaranteed money over the next two seasons.
While the Ravens did not confirm the news, Baltimore’s X account featured a post with six crown emojis on Wednesday afternoon. The running back’s nickname is “King Henry.”
No running back as old as Henry has received a contract that large.
Before joining Baltimore last year, Henry had spent his eight NFL seasons with the Tennessee Titans.

During his NFL career, Henry has run for 11,423 yards and 106 touchdowns on 2,355 carries and caught 174 passes for 1,641 yards and five touchdowns. On the NFL’s career lists, Henry ranks 19th in rushing yards, sixth in rushing touchdowns and 18th in total touchdowns.
Henry became the eighth player in NFL history with at least 1,000 postseason rushing yards with 270 in two playoff contests with Baltimore.
