Dodgers ‘Closely Monitoring’ $70 Million All-Star Infielder for Potential Trade Deadline Move

The Los Angeles Dodgers have made it abundantly clear that winning is the top priority for the 2025 season. In the span of a week, the Dodgers parted ways with two longtime veterans by releasing Chris Taylor and designating Austin Barnes for assignment.

The shocking moves essentially confirm president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman and general manager Brandon Gomes will not sit idly by as the deadline nears. Fans should expect the Dodgers to do whatever it takes to improve the roster, and MLB insider Bob Nightengale suggests it could potentially come in the form of an infielder from a National League West team.

Several teams, including the Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers, are closely monitoring Colorado Rockies infielder Ryan McMahon in case he’s traded this summer,” Nightengale writes.

McMahon has played at third base every game this season, hitting .201 with six home runs, 11 runs batted in and an OPS of .691. The 30-year-old ranks positively in Outs Above Average, so his defense is likely what interested teams are looking at the most.

Last season, McMahon earned his first All-Star selection and slashed .242/.325/.397 with 20 home runs, 65 RBIs and an OPS of .722.

This wouldn’t be the first time the Dodgers have been linked to a third baseman. In the offseason, the defending champions were connected to 10-time Gold Glove winner Nolan Arenado, who made it known L.A. was his preferred trade destination.
