Padres quickly make fans forget about Martin Maldonado with latest signing

Braves bring back former manager to their coaching staff

The Atlanta Braves are bringing back a familiar face to their coaching staff.

Atlanta announced on Monday that they have named Fredi Gonzalez their acting third base coach. They demoted Matt Tuiasosopo from third base coach to minor league infield coordinator.

Gonzalez, 61, has a long history with the Braves, and in the broader NL East. He was a coach with the Braves from 2003-2006 and then became the Miami Marlins’ manager from 2007-2010. The Braves then brought him back as manager from 2011-2016, where he replaced Bobby Cox.

After his time as a manager with the Braves, Gonzalez served as a third base coach for the Marlins. He then coached with the Baltimore Orioles from 2020-2024.

Gonzalez went 710-692 during his managerial career. His teams were 1-4 in the postseason.

Since Gonzalez is replacing Tuiasosopo, you might be wondering what the former infielder did to get demoted. He had multiple questionable holds/sends as the third base coach. He also had a notorious goof with Eli White running to the wrong base and getting thrown out.
