Many athletes find the lack of financial security that comes with entering a contract year without a new deal unnerving.
However, Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs is doing everything right in that situation.
Doubs surprised many people last year when the Packers suspended him for a game against the Los Angeles Rams for conduct detrimental to the team after skipping out on practices without notifying anyone. Reports surfaced that Doubs was upset with his role and decided to play hooky.
Entering the final year of his rookie deal with no assurance he’ll be back in Green Bay for the years to come could’ve steered Doubs back down a slippery slope of frustration.

Doubs looks as carefree as ever since the Packers drafted him in 2022.
He’s helping the rookie wide receivers, praising another in Matthew Golden, and scootering around the facilities like a man with no pressure on his shoulders to earn a hefty payday within the next year.
He sounds like a player who’s found his happy place and is content with and confident in his trajectory.
The big question in the wide receiver room entering last season was who would emerge as Jordan Love’s No. 1 option in the passing game. By the time January rolled around, that question remained unanswered, which almost certainly factored into their selection of Golden in the first round of this year’s draft. Out of the whole group, though, there’s a strong case to be made that Doubs was the most reliable WR on the field.
