Yankees Trade Idea Would Poach 2-Time All-Star Away From Blue Jays

The New York Yankees have gotten more production out of DJ LeMahieu this season than they probably expected after two subpar seasons. However, the team could still use an upgrade in the infield, and it’s unclear if LeMahieu can sustain his .279/.372/.397 slash line. The Yankees could benefit from some better defense up the middle and a little more slug from their infield. Sports Illustrated’s Kenneth Teape suggested the Yankees trade for Bo Bichette of the Toronto Blue Jays.

“Jim Bowden of The Athletic has listed Bichette as a potential trade target for the Yankees, who are in need of an upgrade at second base or third base; whichever position they aren’t deploying Jazz Chisholm Jr. at for the night since he can play either spot,” wrote Teape. “The Blue Jays star would be a massive upgrade over DJ LeMahieu and Oswald Peraza, but Bowden does admit it is hard to envision division rivals making a deal of that magnitude, especially with both in the mix for postseason spots.”

Bichette is a two-time All-Star and has led the American League in hits twice in his career. In 68 games, he is slashing .275/.320/.425. He had three consecutive 20-plus home run seasons before last season, which was the worst year of his career. This season started off slow in the home run department, but the 27-year-old has found his power stroke again. He has hit eight home runs since the calendar flipped to May.
