The one-time golden boy is playing a waiting game to see what offers are on the table before making a decision that could either make or break his World Cup dream.
Everton, Newcastle United and Napoli have all enquired as to the terms that would be agreeable to the hierarchy at the Etihad.
But the 29-year-old, who will be undertaking his own personal fitness programme throughout the summer to ensure he can hit the ground running, wants to see if there are any other takers for his talent.
Grealish wants to give himself the best chance possible of working his way into Thomas Tuchel’s thoughts this season.
The £100m star knows that the Three Lions’ chief is a fan – and that he won’t be subject to the sometimes erratic behaviour shown towards him by Gareth Southgate.
But Grealish also realises that Tuchel does not have a decision to make if he is not playing regular first-team football.
All that adds up to which club can best afford him the opportunity to showcase his talents on a regular basis – and what plans individual managers have for him.
Ideally, Champions League football is high on his list of priorities – that would leave Newcastle and Napoli as frontrunners.
But he has competition for a place out wide on Tyneside where boss Eddie Howe has Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes to call upon if necessary.
