Everton days away from signing Thierno Barry despite new ‘bureaucratic issues’ in deal

The need for a striker has heightened in recent days as it was confirmed that Dominic Calvert-Lewin has left Everton upon the expiry of his contract.

Therefore, Barry, who netted 19 times for both Basel and Villarreal last season, is seen as an ideal replacement.

This comes after weeks of speculation between the Merseyside club and the 22-year-old, with Moyes clearly keen on getting the signing over the line.

Now, according to AS (1 July), Everton are close to sealing the deal for Barry.

The report explains that the Frenchman has already agreed terms with the Toffees, and now the two clubs are close to shaking hands on a £32.6m deal.

Now, the transfer “could become official in days”, with it currently pending due to bureaucratic issues.

Another striker is needed alongside Barry
Once the signing of Barry is over the line, Everton must look to add another striker to their ranks.

There is no guarantee that the 22-year-old will be able to adapt quickly to the Premier League, given how different it is to La Liga.

On top of this, Beto is heavily linked away from Everton, and Moyes cannot afford to go into the new campaign with one first-team striker.

Thankfully, the Toffees are said to be in the market for two strikers this summer, and the Scotsman must make sure this becomes a reality.

If not, Everton’s attacking woes may continue into the 2025/26 campaign which would be simply unacceptable at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
