Everton enter race to sign “gifted” £30m+ McAtee alternative for Moyes
As Everton aim to end their summer transfer business before the window slams shut in around a month’s time, The Friedkin Group have reportedly joined the race to sign a midfield star.
Moyes admits “time running out” for incomings
Although arrivals such as Thierno Barry and Adam Aznou stand out as impressive, it’s not exactly been the statement summer that Everton had in mind as they prepare to start a new era at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Earlier reports revealed that Friedkin have as much as £150m to spend on incomings this summer, but so far the Toffees have failed to get a number of top targets over the line – as David Moyes admitted.
Names such as Douglas Luiz and Manchester City’s James McAtee both sit near the top of Everton’s wishlist, but competition elsewhere may yet deal them a frustration blow as the Premier League campaign draws near.
“The truth is we’re not getting a lot of the deals over the line at the moment, that’s a fact,” Moyes said. “We’re desperate to get things moving on because we know time’s running out.
“My first thought was ‘yes, I was surprised’ because Everton is such a big club. Great traditions, what the club has stood for over the years, the new stadium is an exciting new move for us.
“But then you have another thought and you think again — ‘we have been around the relegation positions the last five years and not far off the bottom.’
“The fact of the matter is we’ve got to rebuild trust in people who should come to Everton and show that the club is going in the right direction and that we’ve got a new future.” (Moyes)
Moyes will be keen to see some movement on that front in the coming weeks, especially in time for the Premier League to get underway, and Everton could yet turn to some alternative options as a result.
Everton enter Gabriel Sara race
According to Caught Offside, Everton have now entered the race to sign Gabriel Sara from Galatasaray this summer. Whilst Aston Villa are currently the frontrunners for the midfielder’s signature, Everton, Manchester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Nottingham Forest and Leeds United are all also lurking.
