Latest Romano update shows £29m transfer could be finalised any moment
The move to take Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Everton has gone very quickly.
From a vague rumour just a few days ago to almost a completed deal, it’s been rapid. With the Club World Cup out of the way and the Premier League season closing in fast, it’s the busiest time of year for our sporting directors, and they’re certainly making progress through their work.
Dewsbury-Hall always felt like one of those players who would be up for sale if the right bid came in, and it seems that with the window passing Everton by, they’ve been the ones to make the decisive move.
Fabrizio Romano has just reported that the midfielder will take his medical today, meaning the move could be confirmed at any moment.
We would imagine negotiations were pretty straightforward. Chelsea just wanted the money they paid to Leicester a year ago back, and by all accounts they could get it. They paid a flat £30m and will get back £25m, with the potential for £5m more through add ons and bonuses if he does really well.
Meanwhile KDH knows he gets more opportunities to be an important player for David Moyes’ new look Toffees.
Chelsea adjust squad balance for Champions League challenge
Dewsbury-Hall only made a couple of Premier League starts last season, but did pick up a lot of minutes in the cups. The plan will be to share those minutes between the newly arrived Dario Essugo and Andrey Santos in midfield, with tons of attacking options available up top to soak up the game time KDH had in the front 3.
Well Kieran, it was short and sweet. He leaves with two very solid trophies and Chelsea get their money back.
