Brighton have ‘asked for information’ on cheap signing Fabian Hurzeler should know well
Brighton and Hove Albion have ‘asked for information’ on St. Pauli youngster Marwin Schmitz but face fierce competition in Germany and from Juventus in Italy.
Tuttosport cover Juventus’ interest today, explaining that the Italian giants have taken notice of the midfielder, who many are comparing to Joshua Kimmich.
Schmitz turned 18 at the beginning of January and signed his first professional contract with St Pauli at that point, with that deal running until 2027.
Juventus don’t care about that and have already moved to try and get ahead of the competition for him, which is believed to be strong. Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, Stuttgart and Leipzig have already knocked on the door for him.
Then there is Brighton in the Premier League, who have already asked for information about him as they continue their efforts to scoop up young talent around the world.
They would presumably know all about Schmitz given Fabian Hürzeler was hired from St. Pauli in the summer transfer window. The Brighton boss will have been aware of the rising talent during his time in charge.
Juventus may have an advantage, though, as Schmitz is tempted by an adventure in Italy and the idea of working through Juventus’ Next Gen set up. There are several shining examples, Dean Huijsen being at the top at present, of that being a smart move for youngsters to make.
The Italians see him as a ‘smart market opportunity’ as he can be signed for less than €1m, but the rising competition could see that change.
