Magic Linked to Blockbuster NBA Trade for $197 Million Star
The Orlando Magic had another season in which they made the postseason, but they were unable to advance past the first round. Injuries held them back throughout the season, as players such as Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero missed time. Luckily, they were healthy down the stretch of the season, and they made the playoffs through the play-in tournament.
The Magic now have a goal to take things to the next level next season, and there will be moves that need to be made in the offseason for that to happen. It’s obvious there are some areas they need to improve, and a trade could make that happen.
One player the Magic have been linked to is Darius Garland from the Cleveland Cavaliers, and Chris Fedor from Cleveland.com sees how it could happen.
“I think there’s a framework, and I say framework because salary stuff becomes very, very difficult for the Cavs,” Fedor said. “So, you’re just talking about a general framework with an understanding that other pieces are probably going to have to be involved.
“Maybe a third team is going to have to be involved. Matching salary becomes very, very difficult when you’re talking about the Cavs and the salary situation that they’re in. But I think there’s a framework of a deal between the Cavs and the Magic that would involve Darius Garland and Jalen Suggs.”
Garland has three years left on his $197 million contract, and if the Magic want to find a way to upgrade their guard position, they’d do what it takes to make a deal happen. At the same time, the Cavaliers would have to be willing to part ways with Garland, and they haven’t shown any signs of doing so.
Garland, 25, has spent his entire six-year career in Cleveland. Last season, he averaged 20.6 points and 6.7 assists per game for a team that turned in the best record in the Eastern Conference.
