As The Friedkin Group set their sights on ending the summer transfer window with a flourish, Everton are now reportedly pushing to sign a versatile La Liga player.

Southampton have been tough negotiators, rejecting both of Everton’s opening offers – including one that reached the £40m-mark – and have since reportedly told the Merseyside club that they’ll need to pay a package worth £50m to sign their young star this summer.

As a result, the Toffees have reportedly turned their focus towards alternative targets as things stand. As the transfer window enters the final few weeks, however, it must be said that time is running out for Friedkin to hand David Moyes the additions that he still requires.

The Everton boss admitted that it’s been a difficult summer for the club on the transfer front, telling reporters last week: “We’re not getting a lot of the deals done which we’re hoping to do, so we’re continually reassessing and moving on, while maybe things are not coming to fruition.

“We keep trying to get the best players we can, but we’re finding it quite difficult at the moment.”

Meanwhile, as rumours rumble on regarding attacking reinforcements, Everton still have the task of replacing Abdoulaye Doucoure, which one La Liga star could help tick off the list this summer.

According to The Boot Room’s Graeme Bailey, Everton are now pushing to sign Juanlu Sanchez from Sevilla this summer. The right-back, who can also play in centre-midfield and right-midfield, has a number of Premier League clubs chasing his signature, but it is Everton who are reportedly pushing ahead of clubs such as Wolverhampton Wanderers and Crystal Palace this month wiht Sevilla wanting £17m.
