Southampton should have signed Luton Town star in this transfer window.

Last season, Championship side Luton Town gained promotion to the Premier League and although they couldn’t stay in the Premier League after the end of the season and got relegated, one of their star player exceeded expectations in his debut Premier League campaign. The star performer is 26-year-old striker Elijah Adebayo, who joined Luton Town from Walsall in the 2021 summer transfer window. Since then, he has gone strength to strength at Luton Town and scored 16 goals in his debut season at the club despite Luton Town narrowly missing promotion to the Premier League through Championship playoffs.

He followed that with seven goals and four assists in the next season as Luton Town improved their performance and qualified for the Premier League through the Championship playoffs. In the Premier League, while Luton Town didn’t had a great performance, Adebayo was one of the top talents of the season as he scored ten Premier League goals in sixteen starts for the club. This included a heroic display against Brighton where he scored a Premier League hat trick to inspire Luton Town to a memorable 4-0 win at home.

Adebayo also scored goals against top Premier League sides such as Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea in his first Premier League season as well. Therefore, Southampton should have entered into transfer talks with Luton Town to sign the 26-year-old forward for around £10 million. Moreover, Adebayo is an athletic centre forward and possesses great game awareness as well to make quality runs into the box.
