Coventry City dealt injury hammer blow ahead of Leeds United with key man ruled out for months.

Coventry City will be looking to return to winning ways when they face Leeds United tomorrow.

Coventry City have received mixed news on the injury front ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Leeds United. Influential midfielder Jamie Allen faces two to three months on the sidelines after suffering a serious knee problem in their loss to Swansea City last time out.

“Jamie has a medial collateral ligament injury and will be out for a significant amount of time, probably going to be eight to 10 weeks,” said Sky Blues manager Mark Robins. “It’s a setback for Jamie as well as us. He’s been through quite a torrid 12 months with various issues, and he doesn’t do anything by halves. If he has an issue, it’s an issue.”

The 29-year-old was hospitalised 14 months ago with a heart concern, from which he made a full recovery, albeit delaying his start to last season. Asked if it was a relief when the scan showed Allen had suffered nothing more serious, Robins said: “I didn’t think it was an ACL, I thought it was what it is, although they are not great injuries anyway.

“They are really painful, knee ligament injuries, and the fact that he tried to carry on as well, tried to flick the ball out and defend while his knee was compromised, so it’s sad. It’s a blow but it is something that is part and parcel of football and we have to make sure we get over it. Jamie will do that, he’s done it in the past.”

Robins admits losing Allen is a “blow” for his Coventry side in their quest to climb the table. “It’s a midfield player out of the building but for Jamie and for us we are doing everything we can to help him get over it as quickly as he possibly can do,” he said. “He was in yesterday but will be off for a few days now with the relevant instructions. He’s going to be in a brace for a while so there’s not a great deal he can do, so he might as well rest at home and hopefully it will settle down quickly.”

Captain Ben Sheaf, though, is edging closer to a first team return. “Ben’s trained all week and with every day that goes by he is closer to the team, so that’s a real positive and has been for a while,” added Robins.
